Born in Dallas, Texas, violist Rebecca Glass earned her doctorate in viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she also completed her bachelors and masters degrees. In addition to collaborating at summer music programs and festivals, she has performed numerous solo recitals throughout the United States and has been violist with Taos Soundscapes Chamber Music since 2013. Rebecca has been the featured guest artist for the Dallas Fine Arts Chamber Players, collaborated with members of the Dallas Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra, given recitals in Steinway Hall in Dallas, Texas, and appeared as a soloist with the Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra. Prior to her collegiate studies she was a finalist in the Lennox, Dallas Symphonic, Lake Louisville, Juanita Miller, Collin County and Lynn Harrell concerto competitions.
In addition to her performance career, Dr. Glass has a strong interest in musical academia. As a theorist, she has served as an instructor in the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Theory department in 2016 and is currently collaborating with Robert Vernon, Principal Viola Emeritus of The Cleveland Orchestra, in his creation of an analytical edition of the Bach Solo Cello Suites. Dr. Glass was featured as a lecturer at the 2016 American Viola Society’s Festival, where she presented a lecture exploring folk music in the solo viola repertoire. She has also been a guest presenter at the 2018 International Viola Congress, the 2019 American String Teachers Association Conference, and the Music Settlement in Cleveland, discussing the art and techniques of memorization. Dr. Glass frequently presents masterclasses at Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she served as the teaching assistant in the studio of Mark Jackobs for three years.
Dr. Glass’ principal viola teachers included Mark Jackobs of The Cleveland Orchestra, Barbara Sudweeks of the Dallas Symphony and Jeffrey Irvine. She has been featured in masterclasses with Roberto Diaz, Heidi Castleman, Geraldine Walther and Ericka Eckert. Apart from viola, Rebecca’s favorite activities include, Texas fiddling, knitting, cooking, and world travel.
